Candlemas Choral Evensong
Candlemas falls on the Sunday nearest to 2nd February; it commemorates the presentation of Christ in the Temple and his recognition as the light of the world by Simeon and Anna in their old age. Worshippers join in the candle lighting ceremony during the singing of the hymn "Hail gladdening light" in a moving service which is increasingly striking a cord with modern day worshippers .

Choral Evensong
Celebrated every three months in one of the churches of the Benefice of Horwich and Rivington but for details it is necessary to follow the information given nearer the time on this website.

Spring Festival Service
The first weekend in May is given over to the Rivington Festival which always culminates in the Festival Service on Sunday morning.  The celebrant is usually a visitor from outside the diocese and musical items are arranged. Refreshments afterwards are of a high order using the momentum acquired when teas are served in the church hall on the previous day.

Harvest Festival
Harvest is celebrated on the last Sunday of September or the first in October.  Gifts of fruit and vegetables are displayed in the church and the service is followed by a Harvest Lunch.
