Easter Services at Rivington

Good Friday

A service of quiet reflection on the events of the first Good Friday 2000 years ago is perfect for this solemn occasion. It is not our practise to celebrate Holy Communion but rather to meditate on the crucifixion in response to sacred readings and music. The service lasts 45 minutes and is followed by coffee and hot cross buns in the Church Porch.

Easter Sunday

This is the most important service in the church calendar and we always expect the church to be completely full.  It is our custom to invite a clergy person of high repute to officiate and when possible to provide special music. There is always a festive atmosphere which is added to by the refreshments in the church hall following the service. The many children in church are presented with a chocolate Easter Egg.

Ascension Day
Celebration of Holy Communion This event falls on the Thursday which is forty days after Easter and is shared by the three other churches in the Benefice.
